“The race is not for the swift, but for those that endure to the end”, and truly, what an
exhilarating race it has been. Having played six (6) matches and winning only three (3), the
Tackle footballers have seen the end to a bitter-sweet season one might say, but boy did they
go out with a bang. They played their final match at May Day High school against the
notorious Papine high on Saturday December 10,2022. The match saw the deCarteret College
Hawks the victor, beating Papine by a whopping 30-12 points.

The Hawks went into their match against Papine following a match against local rivals
Mayday High on December 2. Against May Day the Hawks suffered their biggest upset of
the season, losing 8-6 in what was a hotly contested and feisty bout. So, they went into the
Papine match with the pain of defeat fresh in their minds and gave everything they had.
Touchdown after touchdown, conversion after conversion, the Hawks were simply in a class
of their own. The Papine “Lions” simply stood no chance.

Their next bout is on January 13, 2023, where the deCarteret College “Hawks” will face the
Munroe College “Invincibles,” who are unbeaten in all their matches played. The odds are
stacked against them, but with their heads held high and victory in mind the Hawks are
aiming to deliver and bring home the win. The Hawks vs the Invincibles, the Underdog vs the
Champion, deCarteret College vs Munroe College, January 13, stay tuned.
