1. You formed the Dance Club during your third year. What drove this idea?
This story dates back to February of 2019. Myself and Micalia Campbell (Vice President) were
observing the Jamaica Day dance performance. Though the choreography was quite entertaining,
we realized that it lacked key elements of dance- dynamics, spatial awareness and energy.
Hereafter, we began to question the conception of a dance club for the school. It was all hands on
deck moving forward with this mere idea. Dovani Isaacs (Assistant Vice President) was introduced to
this idea, and the dynamic trio quickly sought the help of Mrs. Lewison to kick start the initiative.
2. What is your aim or mission in regards to your club?
My aim for the club is to foster and highlight talent at deCarteret College. As a performance club, it
is imperative that our members evolve through their expression. Whether it be performing on stage
or leading during club period, our club looks to students who can uphold leadership.
3. What is a day in the life of a member of the Dance Club?

Being a member of the dance club entails attending school like everyone else. The only difference comes in when we commit ourselves every Monday afternoon, as well as some Saturdays to rehearse for the upcoming recital in January.
4. You have gotten this far with the club ; tell me how you feel.
The club celebrated its 3 year anniversary this year. Though I am grateful for all we have
accomplished thus far, we (the executive) are still trying to catch up for lost time due to the
pandemic. To be frank, an online dance club was not the ideal scenario, but I am blessed to be back
face to face to end this journey, on a high note, in my final year. Stay tuned, else you might miss it!
5. You will be graduating next year. Anything you would like to say to the current and future
members of the club?
If there is one thing that I would say to them, it would be to keep the dream alive. I pass the baton
to them and I have given everything I can over the 3 year tenure to ensure that the dance club’s
family stays afloat. The decision is theirs whether or not the club sinks or swims. Remain the
reputable club, remain active, maintain the standards that we have set as the foundation for which
this initiative stands.
